Extreme was an American Hard rock band that achieved popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Some of Extreme’s influences, Queen and Van Halen (the latter of which Gary Cherone would eventually join), are easily apparent from their music’s multi-part vocal harmonies and electric guitar tone and virtuoso techniques. The band lends the listener a sound that blends the genre of glam metal with the shredding guitar work from thrash metal. Being asked about their style, Extreme categorized their music as ‘Funky Metal’.

The acoustic ballad “More Than Words” entered the Hot 100 on March 23, 1991, at Number 81. It later became a huge smash, hitting Number 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in the United States. In 1974 the new line-up of Scorpions released Fly to the Rainbow. The album proved to be more successful than Lonesome Crow and songs such as “Speedy’s Coming” and the title track began to establish the band’s sound.Achim Kirschning decided to leave after the recordings but subsequently guested on keyboards for the next two albums. Soon after, Jürgen Rosenthal had to leave as he was being drafted into the army, and was replaced by a Belgian drummer, Rudy Lenners. He later joined German progressive rock band called Eloy in 1976 and recorded three albums with them. It wasn’t until the following year that the band hit their stride with the release of In Trance. In Trance marked the beginning of Scorpions’ long collaboration with German producer Dieter Dierks. The album was a huge step forward for Scorpions and firmly established their hard rock formula, while at the same time garnering a substantial fan base, both at home and abroad. Cuts such as “Dark Lady”, “Robot Man” and the title track are still considered classics by fans today.

Born in South Jamaica, Queens in New York, 50 Cent began drug dealing at the age of twelve during the 1980s’ crack epidemic. After leaving drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he was shot nine times in 2000. After releasing his mixtape compilation Guess Who’s Back? in 2002, 50 Cent was discovered by rapper Eminem and signed to Interscope Records. With the help of Eminem and Dr. Dre—who produced his first major commercial successes—he became one of the highest selling rap artists in the world. K-C and JoJo’s first sign of independence came in 1994 when K-C covered Bobby Womack’s hit “If You Think You’re Lonely Now” for the movie Jason’s Lyric. Early in 1996, K-Ci and Jo-Jo teamed up for the song “How Could You” for the movie Bulletproof starring Damon Wayans and Adam Sandler.

By July 1996, K-C and JoJo finally had a hit on their hands as guest artists in 2Pac’s number-one R&B hit “How Do U Want It”. It also topped the Billboard Hot 100. The brothers made their side projects into a full album, Love Always. Released on June 17, 1997, the album spawned two top-ten R&B hits: “You Bring Me Up” and “Last Night’s Letter”. The minor success of those singles, however, paled in comparison to the success of the album’s third single, “All My Life” (which was dedicated to JoJo’s daughter). A supple, lush ballad far removed from the Jodeci material of the early 1990s, “All My Life” was the number-one song on the Hot 100 for three weeks, a feat that K-Ci and Jo-Jo had never achieved with Jodeci. Future singles and albums would be crafted in the vein of “All My Life”, which was the duo’s only number-one hit. Love Always went on to sell four million copies, and the success of the album put Jodeci’s reunion on hold indefinitely.

Courage, it would seem, is nothing less than the power to overcome danger, misfortune, fear, injustice, while continuing to affirm inwardly that life with all its sorrows is good; that everything is meaningful even if in a sense beyond our understanding; and that there is always tomorrow.

The thing always happens that you really believe in, and the belief in a thing makes it happen.

U2 formed in 1976 when the members were teenagers with limited musical proficiency. By the mid-1980s, however, the band had become a top international act, noted for its anthemic sound, Bono’s impassioned vocals, and The Edge’s textural guitar playing. Their success as a live act was greater than their success as a record-selling act until their 1987 album, The Joshua Tree, brought them mega-stardom. Their 1991 album Achtung Baby and the accompanying Zoo TV Tour were part of a significant reinvention for the band; it was a response to their own sense of musical stagnation, the dance and alternative rock revolutions, and criticism of their image. This experimentation continued for the rest of the 1990s.
